Case Description

Krizia Berg, et al. v County of Los Angeles, et al., case No. 2:20-CV-07870-DMG-PD is a class action lawsuit that is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.  Plaintiffs represent a class of persons (“the Direct Force Class”) who were present at or during the aftermath of protests regarding the killing of George Floyd in the County of Los Angeles, and similar protests against police misconduct on May 30, June 21, August 25, September 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 19 and 25, 2020 and June 12, 2021 who were engaged in peaceful protest and/or observing the proceedings and were subjected to force with so-called “less-lethal weapons,” such as rubber or foam bullets or projectiles, tear gas, pepper balls, or similar chemical agents, flashbangs and/or other similar munitions, by LASD deputies

Plaintiffs also represent a class of approximately 150 persons who were arrested by the LASD on June 3, 2020 and June 21, 2020 and were transported on LASD buses or vans.  Plaintiffs, on behalf of themselves and the class members, allege that LASD subjected those persons arrested (“the Arrest Class”) to unreasonable conditions during the course of the arrests and transportation.
